Mobilité Francophone: communicating in French to work in Canada
Jul 08, 2024Written by Eddy Ramírez
Canada is a very friendly country for attracting foreign workers from all over the world, as it offers several migration routes that adapt to different profiles. Of all of them, there is one that is unique and very much appreciated by an exclusive group of French speakers, I am referring to the Mobilité Francophone or Francophone Mobility program, an economic pathway designed to encourage the use of French in Canadian communities outside Quebec. This program is for people who already speak the language at a conversational level CLB 5.
In this Planeta Immiland article, I am going to develop three very important aspects related to the economic migration route to Canada, these are: the Mobilité Francophone program, the French CLB 5 and the LMIA exempt benefit. Let's get started!
Mobilité Francophone requires level CLB 5.
The Mobilité Francophone is a program that offers immigration facilities to Canada to gain work experience in the country. However, the Mobilité Francophone requires the applicant to speak French at CLB 5 level.
The CLB (Canadian Language Benchmark) is a system that measures language skills in English or French. For example, a CLB 5 indicates a moderate level of language proficiency. If the applicant demonstrates this on an internationally recognized test, such as the TEFthen he/she may qualify for the Mobilité Francophone program. Of course, other requirements must always be met.
Requirements to apply to Mobilité Francophone
Citizens of all nationalities may apply to the program as long as they meet certain requirements:
- Work outside the province of Quebec.
- Have knowledge of the indicated profession and prove experience through documents.
- Possess a CLB 5 level of French.
- Have a job offer in any province in Canada (except Quebec).
- Not to work in the agricultural area.
LMIA exempt/not required
To understand the LMIA exemption, it must first be defined. LMIA stands for Labour Market Impact Assessment. This assessment is demonstrated by a document required to hire most foreign nationals in Canada, as it confirms the need for foreign nationals to fill the job vacancy and that no Canadians are available to do so. This is the most attractive feature of the Francophone mobility program, that the LMIA is exempt so it will not be required of the applicant. This procedure is cumbersome and often the employer does not want to do it.
How to reach the CLB 5 level for the Mobilité Francophone
Planeta Immiland offers an intensive course focused on Mobilité Francophone. Below, we describe its features and benefits:
- There are 15 weeks per course and it is a program that implements the most advanced theories and methodologies of ESL, English as a second language.

- They will learn to read and write simple texts, such as informal e-mails and service notes.
- Once the CLB 5 level has been reached and a job offer has been obtained, you can apply to the Mobilité Francophone program. See the Mobilité Francophone course.
