Low CRS score in French opens the doors to Canada!

Good news for French language learners: the first Express Entry 2025 draw for the French Proficiency category lowered the CRS score to 428 (from 466) and increased the invitations to 6500 (from 800) to live and work in Canada!
If you are learning to speak French or already have an intermediate-advanced level and want to immigrate to Canada, this article is of great interest to you because this language has become the master key that opens the doors to this prosperous country. While the Planeta Immiland blog blog deals with academic topics, today I want to highlight the benefit of speaking French for immigration purposes thanks to this special Express Entry category. Let's get started!
The special Express Entry French language proficiency category
The French Proficiency category of the Express Entry system is designed especially for candidates who speak French at an intermediate to advanced level and who wish to settle in regions of Canada where personnel with French language skills are required.
The Express Entry system is competitive and points-based. Candidates are evaluated and ranked according to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which takes into account language skills as well as other factors. This year 2025, the French Proficiency category is a great advantage because it is within the country's immigration priorities. Therefore, candidates who already speak French and are classified under this category may receive invitations to apply (ITA) for permanent residence with lower scores compared to other categories.
What if you still speak little or no French?
If you are a student of French and are at a very basic level of the language or want to learn it from scratch, don't worry. There are excellent opportunities to start an academic training oriented towards Canadian immigration. The important thing is to know what goals you want to achieve with the language, whether it is employment, study or a change of status.
If your goal is to qualify for the special category of French Proficiency and prepare to successfully compete in the Express Entry system, it is recommended to start a specific course. At Planeta Immiland, we offer a unique program that is based on Canadian education and migration standards. Here I detail it a little more.
Express Entry French Program
This program is designed to get you to Canada with a competitive level of French. Planeta Immiland's Express Entry French course takes you to a CLB 7 (B2), on the Canadian Language Benchmarks scale, in an average time of 9 months.
The focus of the course is communicative, leading you to acquire the four main skills of FSL: speaking, reading, writing and listening in order to successfully function in the French-speaking Canadian culture. In addition, the course preparation is useful for taking the internationally recognized exams, TEF or TCF.
In our teaching methodology, we apply effective strategies for the development of comprehension and production skills through:
- Oral and written comprehension practices and exercises.
- Oral and written production exercises.
- Construction of vocabulary and grammar structures in real communicative contexts.
- Phonetics and pronunciation tips.
- Variety of French-speaking accents (France, Quebec, Switzerland, Belgium, among others).
- Multiculturality (cultural tips to learn interesting facts about the French language).
An important fact is that our French programs are accredited by Languages Canada, which certifies that learning for immigration purposes is guaranteed and can improve your opportunities for professional growth, employment and cultural immersion.

Before I say goodbye, I want to leave you with this reflection: the fact that Canada has issued 6500 invitations to apply for permanent residence for the special category French proficiency and has lowered the CRS score reflects the importance that the country gives to French-speaking immigration. So, if you are learning French and want to move up a level, continue studying and focus your preparation on a program for immigration purposes to Canada.
I hope this topic will be useful and make French your master key to living and working in Canada. Thank you for reading. See you in the next blog.
With love,
Planeta Immiland Education
