Every day we read on our computers or cell phones words such as access, research, control, addressetc., which are becoming more and more common and, when they appear, we know that they are in the context of networks, technology and computers, but what other use can they have apart from directing us to a specific link in the networks? Well, with these words we can also make progress in English, especially in reading proficiency.

Today we dedicate the Planeta Immiland blog to the use of the words: control, access, research, record, address and present. to advance in reading and strengthen the four language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Read with me to the end and take note of every detail - let's get started!

Activate reading in English with the words control, access, research, record, address and present

Digital world words are words that function in technological contexts, such as on computers and phones. For example, when we search from connected devices, networks and online resources. These words belong to the computer system and are very useful for better interpreting English texts, as well as for forming more complete sentences and communicating effectively on technology-related topics.

Let's see how these words help in the competence of reading operating systems and social networks.

The screen or interface for reading in English

The words of the digital world (control, access, research, record, address, present, present) help to decipher, interpret and deduce the meaning of a sentence. In particular, the technology environment often handles instructions and calls to action, which favor reading comprehension with short, precise sentences.

In order to understand what the sentence is about, the student must be familiar with the meaning of these words.

  • Control: appears in configurations as. "Control Panel" o "Control Settings" in computers. It means central configuration section in operating systems, such as Windows. From the Control Panel you can adjust settings related to hardware, software, user accounts, networks, and more. Control Setting refers to the specific configuration options or control settings within a program, application or device. Knowing this helps you understand how to read operating systems.

  • Access: is commonly used in social networks in phrases such as. "Access your account" and means "to access".. It also appears on the computer, in phrases such as. "Grant access to files".

  • Research: this word means "research" and is frequently used in search engines such as. "Research keywords or when exploring information in technological platforms.

  • Record: may refer to audio or data recordings, as in. "Record a meeting o "Record your screen". In social networks, we read "Record a video for your story", "Record a live session".

  • Address: Is used in email addresses or web locations, such as. "Enter your email address".

  • Present: Is associated with tools such as PowerPoint, appears as. "Present your work".

These words are key to understanding how we interact with social platforms and how we can integrate them into English language learning. By understanding them in their technological context, the English learner is developing skills to interpret texts, infer meanings, and perform effective actions.

Application of words from the digital world to the 4 linguistic skills

These words from the digital world can also enhance the four skills of learning English, as we read them almost daily, but we can also write, hear and pronounce them when we enter the context of technology-related topics.

The 4 language skills are:

  • Reading (reading): this competence is acquired and developed by interpreting technological texts, such as configurations, commands or tools.
  • Writing (writing): to practice the words of the digital world, you need to create sentences related to technological tasks. You can practice with fellow students or even at home by doing simulations on your computer.
  • Listening (listening): to understand English instructions through listening, you can apply these words from computer and technology tutorials where they are constantly mentioned.
  • Speaking (speaking): this competence is activated when explaining or describing technological processes orally.

At-home strategies for constructing complete sentences in technology.

To master the vocabulary of the digital world, combine these words with other grammatical elements. Here are some examples, analyze them and then complete the third sentence:

  • "I need to access my email address to research for the meeting".

  1. "Control the screen brightness for better reading".

Complete with the appropriate word:

  1. "I want to ____________ the meeting for future reference".

With these structures and daily practice, you will not only improve your English comprehension, but also your ability to communicate effectively in computer, technology and social networking contexts.
