"CLB Level 5: I expose", "CLB Level 7: I argue". Do you know which French course you should choose to achieve these levels?
If you speak French and wish to settle in Canada, it is essential to know what level of language proficiency you need depending on the immigration program you choose. Many students of our school, Planeta Immiland, and users of the platforms express doubts and concerns because they are not clear about the differences between the following courses Mobilité Francophone (CLB 5) y General French (CLB 7).
So, today I will explain which is which according to the focus on the skills required. Read with me to the end and evaluate which French program to choose. Let's get started!
Program Mobilité Francophone: Level CLB 5
This course is designed for French-speaking workers who wish to settle permanently in Canada, outside Quebec, the province where French is the official and most predominant language. The Francophone Mobility immigration program or Mobilité Francophone does not require an advanced command of the language, but it does require candidates to have a level of CLB 5 in French. For this reason, the French course of our academy that takes you to the CLB 5 level is called the same as the migratory program, Mobilité Francophone.
At the CLB 5 level, the linguistic skill developed by the student only requires only requires exposing or showing arguments or opinionsbut not debating or defending their position.
What does a CLB 5 demonstrate?
Level 5, on the Canadian measurement scale, Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB), leads to the exposition of ideas. Here the student demonstrates:
- Ability to hold basic conversations in work environments.
- Understanding simple simple instructions y everyday communication.
- Writing of short texts y structured textssuch as business e-mails.
A worker with CLB 5 could be employed in a job where French is not the main language or requires too much proficiency in its four areas, but is necessary for occasionally interacting with customers or with customers or colleagues. For example, a waiter, a janitor or a bricklayer.
The course Mobilité Francophone leads the student to a conversational level and is designed for jobs in French-speaking areas of Canada that require it.
Now let's look at the second French program!
General French: Level CLB 7 or higher
For those seeking to improve their immigration profile or to study in Canada, it is recommended to reach a level of CLB 7 (B2) or higherwhich demonstrates a more advanced proficiency advanced proficiency language proficiency.
At this level, the student begins to handle argumentative discourse. argumentative discourse and the exemplification of concepts.
What does a CLB 7 demonstrate?
The goal of CLB 7 is for the student to be able to defend and debate their ideas. At this level, it is demonstrated:
- Ability to participate in discussions and express complex ideas.
- Comprehension of technical texts and official documents.
- Fluent writing of detailed reports and essays.
A candidate with CLB 7 could study at a Canadian university in French, write academic papers and communicate without difficulty in a professional environment. For example, with a CLB 7 or higher, he/she could start a career in engineering, law, etc.; occupy a senior management position, among others.
The concrete difference between the two levels can be summarized in these capabilities:
- CLB 5: "I expose".
- CLB 7 or more: "I argue, I argue".
