For the first time in soccer history, the 2026 World Cup will be held in three countries—Canada, the United States, and Mexico—allowing millions of people to discover new destinations while experiencing the passion of soccer.
This makes this edition much more special.
If you have the chance to visit Canada during the World Cup, you'll probably come back with much more than just photos and sports souvenirs.
You might come back with a new dream: to live in a safe, modern country with wonderful people and so much more.
Would you like to know what the experience would be like? Read this blog with me and discover why Canada is a country you'll fall in love with at first sight.
More than just a host country—an experience you'll fall in love with
Canada will not only be the venue for some of the tournament's most anticipated matches.
It will also be the place where thousands of visitors will discover why it is considered one of the best countries to live, study, and work in.
During the World Cup, you'll be able to explore modern cities, walk along clean and safe streets, meet people from different cultures, and experience a lifestyle that has won over millions of people around the world.
Many travelers come here with soccer on their minds. But they end up falling in love with the country and wanting to live there.
Experience the World Cup like a Canadian
To really enjoy the experience like a true local, try doing more than just attending a game.
⚽ Meet up at the Fan Zones
In Canada, sporting events are enjoyed as a community.
The Fan Zones are spaces where people of all nationalities gather to watch the games on giant screens, share food, chat, and celebrate together.
Here you'll discover that soccer's universal language is excitement, and that you'll be able to easily join in on conversations and make new friends. Of course, if you speak English or French (their two official languages), you’ll get along even better.
☕ Discover the local culture
Between games, take the opportunity to explore cafes, parks, markets, and iconic neighborhoods.
- Talk to the residents.
- Ask them about their favorite places.
- Listen to their stories.
Canada is known for the friendliness of its people, and many of the best recommendations come from spontaneous conversations.
Go ahead and ask them about their favorite dish: poutine, with a simple, direct phrase: “Where can I try poutine?” Or, Où puis-je goûter la poutine?
🚇 Get around like a local
Buy the smart card Compass Card anduse public transportation, visit different neighborhoods, and check out local shops.
If you're going to Vancouver, I recommend visiting the Gastown neighborhood. There, many Latin Americans stroll along its cobblestone streets, take selfies with the iconic Steam Clock in the background, and then buy the typical pure maple syrup in glass bottles shaped like maple leaves, or chocolates and cookies filled with maple cream.
A practical tip: You can bring them back as souvenirs for your family and friends when you return; I assure you, you’ll be giving them a gift with a distinctly Canadian flavor.
Beyond the tourist attractions, exploring its avenues, squares, shops, and cities in general is what will allow you to discover what everyday life in Canada is really like.
A country built by people from all over the world
One of the things that surprises visitors to Canada the most is its diversity.
In a single day, you can chat with people from Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
This cultural richness makes many visitors feel welcome from the very first moment.
In addition, respect for different cultures and an inclusive environment make it much easier for those who dream of settling there in the future to adapt.
Language completely transforms your experience
The great thing about Canada is that it has not one but two official languages, so there are more opportunities for communication.
Imagine walking into a coffee shop, chatting with the barista, and feeling like you understand each other in English.
Ask for recommendations in French on what to see in the city.
Chat with other fans in either language while you wait for the game to start.
Ask about study opportunities.
Talking with someone who works in the same field as you and discovering that you can understand each other even without being experts in the language.
Every conversation is an opportunity to learn something new about Canada… and about yourself.
All of that changes when you can communicate with confidence.
Without a doubt, English and French don't just make traveling easier. They also allow you to have authentic experiences and make connections that you would be unlikely to have if you relied solely on Spanish.
What if this trip sparks a new life project?
Many people visit Canada as tourists and return months later as international students.
Others return with a job offer because they made connections with key people during their visit. They literally knew how to make the most of the experience like a local!
Some find that they want to learn French to expand their opportunities in French-speaking regions.
And others simply realize that the country where they had an unforgettable experience could become the place where they will build their future.
It's possible that when you return home with your favorite national team's jersey, you'll end up discovering that this beautiful country is your new destination.
