Have you already defined your plan for the year to improve your English? Because there is nothing better than starting it by gaining fluency in speaking to open doors to success; this is achieved through constant English conversation practice. Whether you have a basic, intermediate or advanced level, participating in English conversation practice is one of the most recommended ways to make progress.

How to draw up a yearly plan for practicing English conversation? Read this Planet Immiland blog with me. Here I will share a guide that will lead you to make the most of your entry into the world of English conversation. Take note of each step - let's get started!

Yearly plan to take advantage of English conversation practices

This guide will not only help you speak English faster and more fluently, but will also lead you to interact with people of different genders and ages, with common and not so common interests, even from other parts of the world, if you use digital media, and will broaden your life horizons as well.

First quarter (January - March)

Specific objectives

  • Recognize potential interlocutors, i.e., your conversation partners. It can be very useful to assess your daily environment to identify who speaks English, evaluate their language proficiency levels and propose conversation circles.

  • Develop basic vocabulary and everyday phrases. This requires focusing on expanding basic vocabulary and learning useful phrases for everyday situations.

  • Improve listening comprehension. This practice is achieved through activities such as listening to podcasts, listening to songs and watching movies in English and then bringing them into conversation.

A good tip for self-evaluating your progress in this first trimester is to write a journal in English documenting your progress and reflections, and to practice the language at least 15-30 minutes a day, either reading or writing, and then take it into conversational practice with your English partners.

Second quarter (April - June)

Specific objectives

  • Maintain an in-between conversation. You will do this by actively participating in discussions on more complex topics such as a country's particular culture, current events and breaking news.

  • Write short texts. To do this, practice writing e-mails, short essays, and descriptions of important events that have occurred in your environment, then read them aloud to practice oral proficiency.

  • Gain fluency and good pronunciation. This is one of the most sought-after goals for people who want to converse fluently in English. This is achieved by working on a daily basis with specific exercises such as speaking at home on a topic, recording and listening to oneself to identify achievements and possible corrections.

It is advisable to form small study groups among friends and conversation partners in English to practice speaking about topics of common interest. This leads to a good climate for feedback. feedback and serves for mutual correction of errors in pronunciation, grammatical construction, use of plurals, etc.

Third quarter (July - September)

Specific objectives

  • Hold an advanced conversation. To do so, participate in discussions and presentations on specialized topics.

  • Develop advanced writing skills. This is achieved by writing reports of your studies, proposals for your boss or co-workers and other more formal documents. Creativity is important at this stage, as you can simulate a real presentation and you will be motivated to do better and better.

  • Achieve advanced listening and speaking skills. You need to practice the use of idiomatic expressions and specialized vocabulary to finally enter the world of conversational complexity in English.

The tips for this phase focus on the famous immersion. To do this, you can start by participating in cultural activities and events in English that place you in the real English-speaking environment. In addition, it is advisable to go hand in hand with bilingual or native teachers who can help you create more advanced conversation sessions. For this, it is ideal to start an online or face-to-face English course. At the end of the blog, I will leave the courses of our school Planeta Immiland.

Fourth quarter (October - December)

Specific objectives

  • Achieve certification in English. Preparing for international certification exams in English is an indicator that you are succeeding. The IELTS, Celpip, Pearson tests will lead you to demonstrate how much progress you have made in English throughout the year.
  • Evaluate your progress from the beginning. To do this, find your journal and evaluate how you started speaking and writing at the beginning of the year, qualify and quantify your progress, and set new goals for the next twelve months.

It is highly recommended to review each written note, how many human and material resources contributed to the learning achievement and what you have gained both in English fluency and in new friendships and opportunities for study, work or personal growth during the internship.

This is how a yearly plan to practice English conversation can work! I hope you found this topic useful.
